There are many variations. Here are just a few of the types of truss bridges we can fabricate for you:
  • Lattice
  • Whipple
  • Pratt
  • Warren

Lattice – This type of truss bridge consists of closely spaced sections that are arranged in a diagonal to form a lattice pattern. In general, the materials used are steel or iron, creating a very durable structure. This design can also look very grandiose and regal and we will manufacture it to your specifications. The lattice form was patented in the early 1800’s by an architect by the name of Ithiel Town. These were originally popular because it was easy for workers to transport the pieces of wood used in construction.

Whipple – This is an interesting truss bridge design as it is basically constructed in the form of a trapezoid when viewed from the side; flat on the top and bottom with angled sides. During construction, the support portions of this structure intersect in a diagonal fashion, making a very interesting aesthetic that is often used for railroad applications. This bridge is very strong and rigid. It can withstand the very large amount of weight of a locomotive. If you have questions about whether this choice is right for you, call us to discuss details about your project. When we agree that it meets your needs, we will get started on fabrication right away. This type of bridge was patented by Squire Whipple in 1847.

Pratt – The great thing about this truss bridge is that there are many different variations, making it a sound option for many different uses. The design spreads out the weight load of whatever is on it in a way that can be altered by the number of internal trusses. We have used this design for many different purposes and it continues to be a popular and excellent choice. The design was the result of years of research by Caleb and Thomas Pratt in the mid 1800’s. It was originally comprised of iron and was also used in railway construction.

Warren – The Warren truss bridge can be considered a very economical choice. It utilizes fewer building materials, making it very lightweight, while still maintaining its integrity. The design of this option consists of horizontal trusses that are held together by diagonal crossed trusses which are spread out at equal intervals. From the side this bridge will look like inverted and upward-facing triangles that all form the same angles. This type of design is seen in many different variations in a multitude of different areas and applications, as it can be very diverse and appealing.
